Chepara Glacier
The Bzipi, Kelasuri and Kodori basins are located in the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. Of these three basins, only the Kodori basin has large glaciers. These are: No. 21, Marukhi (2.2/1.8)*; No. 37, Soprudzhu (3.2/4.5); No. 52, South Ptishi (2.1); No. 118, Sakeni (2.8/2.5), although none of them were suitable for our purpose - to calculate the speed and trend of glacier retreat. Of the glaciers of Abkhazia, only No. 125, Chepara glacier, whose area according to the catalog is 1.6 km2, is valid. According to its area, it belongs to the category of medium glaciers, although it can be used to characterize the melting of glaciers in the Kodori basin. Data from various LANDSAT satellite sensors were used, and the contours of the final location of the glacier were determined and refined based on a high-resolution (1.5 m) SPOT 6 satellite image from September 23, 2020.
